Another Vocabulary Lesson

I'm spending this much time on words because in my not so humble opinion, the fun of sudoku is being able to think about the puzzle in a variety of ways, and words are our tools for thinking.  I'm also doing it because there are still contradictions out there.  If I get ambitious, someday, I may compile a different vocabulary list with every vocabulary variation I've found in my reading.  But it will have to wait for a day when I'm VERY ambitious.

So, more words:

Pair -- when a symbol can only appear twice in a given set, that's a pair.  You can have pairs in columns, rows, or squares, but the kind I like best are the PAIRS IN SQUARES.  (You'll see why as we go along.)

Singleton/Singularity -- when a symbol can only appear once in a given set, that's a singularity.  It's also the answer, which I generally call a deduction.

Corralling --  any method used to eliminate the number of spaces in which a symbol can appear in the hopes of finding pairs or singletons.

Twoshare -- when  only two symbols can appear in a given space, that's a twoshare.  (And along that line of logic, if only three symbols can appear in a given space it's a threeshare, if four, then a fourshare, etc.  But for practical purposes we will be working mostly with twoshares and the occasional threeshare.)

Lonely Only -- when only one symbol can appear in a given space, that's a lonely only -- and again, an answer/deduction.

Culling -- any method used to eliminate the symbols which can appear in a space in the hopes of getting it down to a twoshare or a lonely only.

Angle -- a PAIR IN A SQUARE which is set diagonally in the grid.

Arrow -- a PAIR IN A SQUARE which is set horizontally or vertically in the grid.

More later -- I have to go to work.
